Guidance on assessing the impacts of an AI system on individuals and society — so the effects of your AI are understood before it goes live.

AI system impact assessment

What it is

ISO/IEC 42005 provides guidance for organisations performing AI system impact assessments: how to identify, document and evaluate the potential impacts of an AI system on individuals, groups and society, and how to use those findings throughout the AI lifecycle.

Why it matters for private AI

Even a private, well-secured AI system can affect the people it touches — the fairness of an outcome, the transparency of a decision, the experience of a customer or citizen. Understanding those impacts is central to using AI ethically and to meeting obligations such as the EU AI Act.

ISO/IEC 42005 gives us a rigorous method for AI impact assessment. We use it to examine each deployment’s effect on real people before go-live, and to keep that assessment current as the system evolves.

How AgoActum applies it

  • A documented impact assessment for each use case, feeding directly into design and go-live decisions.
  • Explicit attention to fairness, transparency, contestability and affected groups.
  • Impact assessments kept live and revisited as data, models and usage change.

Compliance. AgoActum’s private AI solution is designed and operated to comply with ISO/IEC 42005:2025. It is one of five ISO/IEC standards that together govern how we manage AI risk, ensure ethical use and support legal compliance.
