Standards

ISO/IEC 42001:2023

The world’s first AI management system standard — the overarching framework that ties everything together and the one we consider most important.

AI management system

What it is

ISO/IEC 42001 specifies the requirements for an AI management system (AIMS): a structured way for an organisation to manage the development and use of AI responsibly, covering risk, ethics, transparency, accountability and continual improvement across the whole AI lifecycle.

Why it matters for private AI

ISO/IEC 42001 is the backbone of a trustworthy private AI programme. Where the other standards address specific facets — security, risk, board oversight, impact — 42001 is the management system that connects them into one accountable, auditable whole.

It is how we — and you — can demonstrate to regulators, clients and your own board that AI is being managed deliberately: risks controlled, ethical use assured and legal compliance supported by design rather than by good intentions.

How AgoActum applies it

  • We operate our own AI management system to ISO/IEC 42001, and help clients stand up and certify theirs.
  • AI policy, roles, objectives and controls established for every deployment, with lifecycle documentation.
  • Continual improvement: evaluation, monitoring, incident handling and management review baked into how the solution runs.

Compliance. AgoActum’s private AI solution is designed and operated to comply with ISO/IEC 42001:2023. It is one of five ISO/IEC standards that together govern how we manage AI risk, ensure ethical use and support legal compliance.
